«Our story began with Nils, one of our three sons, who turned yellow one day. After contacting the Basel Children’s Clinic, it quickly became clear that it was serious and of course Nils would not be able to return home anytime soon. So Nils ‚father returned home with Nils‘ two brothers while the mother stayed in the hospital. When the situation deteriorated rapidly, the gastroenterologist decided the next day to transfer Nils by helicopter to Geneva to the Center Pédiatrique Suisse du Foie. Here, too, Nils was accompanied by his mother, who by then had essentially received her toothbrush and a few additional underwear. Three days later we were able to organize (work! School!), Which the father and brothers followed by train to Geneva, where Nils‘ mother lived in her intensive care room at the HUG.
At that time we learned that the APAEG was making apartments available to families like us near HUG. We cannot express how grateful we were to hear this. This apartment served as a temporary home for over five weeks. It was a place where Nils ‚brothers could somewhat withdraw from this crazy situation and find their own toys, eat their own parents‘ food. It was also the place where the parents could sleep a full night (every other night). Thank you for all you have done for us !! It was invaluable to us.
